When police arrived at the store on Connecticut Avenue at 5 p.m. Friday, the dog showed visible “physical indications of stress,” the Hour said.

The car had heated up to 96 to 99 degrees even though the windows were cracked open and the sunroof was open, The Hour said.

The owner — 25-year-old Jennifer Smith — told police she had shopped for 10 to 15 minutes, but she was charged with cruelty to animals.
