Police Write Tickets, Make Arrests At Two Darien Parties

DARIEN, Conn. – Darien police issued a series of tickets and arrests at a pair of parties around town last week, including an arrest on a charge of driving under the influence.

The first incident was reported on Haskell Lane on July 30. A resident called to report music and many cars parked in the area of a home on that street at about 9:45 p.m. Officers found a cooler and an empty box of beer cans on the front lawn, according to the report.

About 20 people were in the backyard, along with beer cans and bottles of alcohol, police said. The “majority of adults were over 21,” but there were minors at the party, according to the police report. The party’s host, an 18-year-old Darien resident, was issued an infraction on permitting the possession of alcohol by minors, police said.

The alcohol was provided by two men, a 24-year-old Port Chester, N.Y., resident and a 22-year-old Stamford resident, police said. Both were given a misdemeanor summons for providing alcohol to minors and assigned a court date of Aug. 9.

On Thursday night, officers on patrol on Post Road near Hillside Avenue spotted three people enter a car carrying two garbage bags, police said. Officers later found that one of the bags contained empty beer cans, while the other had full cans, according to the police report. One of the car’s passengers also turned over a small amount of marijuana from his sock, police say.

The teen in the driver’s seat, a 17-year-old Darien resident, failed a field sobriety test at the scene and was charged with driving under the influence, possession of marijuana and possession of alcohol by a minor. The two passengers, also 17 and from Darien, were also charged with possession of marijuana and possession of alcohol by a minor. All three were released to their parents’ custody.

Officers then went to a Post Road home nearby, where the three teens had come from earlier. There, officers talked to two residents who reported that their daughter had friends over but they did not know alcohol was being consumed, police say. Police issued an infraction to the girl, a 17-year-old Darien resident, for permitting minors to possess alcohol.
