Just before 2 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, a caller reported something was burning near the corner of Hollow Tree Ridge Road and Middlesex Road, police said.

The Noroton Heights Fire Department and officers arrived on the scene, where there is a construction site for houses. When officials arrived, they found a portable toilet that had been lit on fire.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames. Police said that the plastic porta potty had been burned and that the circumstances appeared suspicious. The incident is under investigation, police said.

Later that day, a dumpster caught fire outside another home under construction on Kensett Lane. Firefighters and officers arrived on the scene at about 7:30 p.m. to find the dumpster fully engulfed in flames. The Noroton Heights Fire Department extinguished the blaze.

Police said there was some damage to the home, including a window that broke and some smoke damage. The cost of the damage was estimated to be about $3,000, police said. The cause of the fire is under investigation, though police said the circumstances do not appear suspicious.
