Kevin Zomek, 46, of Southwick, Mass. was charged with three counts of illegal use of a credit card and one count of third-degree larceny. He was held on a $5,000 bond and went to court May 5.
Zomek's arrest comes a couple months after another former employee, Jeffrey Lacey of Fairfield, also was charged with using an employee gas card for personal use, police said.
Zomek's arrest stems from an audit conducted on the Darien-based lumber company in late January. The auditor came to police headquarters and reported Zomek had fraudulently used a company gas card to fill up his own vehicle, according to police reports.
Police said during the course of Zomek's employment at Ring's End, he used the gas card to charge somewhere between $3,600 and $5,600 worth of gas that he pumped into his personal vehicle. The transactions took place in Massachusetts, where police said security photos were obtained showing Zomek using the credit card.
Police spoke to Zomek, who said that occasionally he used the company card for his vehicle when the company van broke down, according to police reports. He said he was fired in November 2014 for "attendance reasons" and he used the card numerous times after his termination, according to police. Police said he used the card to charge an additional $1,574 since he was fired.
A warrant was applied for Zomek's arrest and he turned himself in to police May 5.
