Route 8 northbound was closed for hours after the serious crash, state police said.

The collision took place just before Exit 12. A Dodge Grand Caravan driven by 47-year-old Ketty Mancero of Stratford was in the right lane on the northbound side of Route 8. A Chevrolet Express driven by 51-year-old Guy Lochard of Bridgeport was traveling southbound on Route 8.

Lochard's van crossed the grassy median for an unknown reason and struck the front of Mancero’s vehicle in the northbound lanes, state police said.

Lochard’s vehicle then went down an embankment into a wooded area off the right shoulder, state police said.

A passenger from Mancero’s van had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital with serious injuries, state police said.

Mancero was transported to Bridgeport Hospital, with minor injuries, and Lochard was transported to Bridgeport Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, state police said.

Traffic was jammed for hours after the crash, due to the closure of Route 8 while police cleared the accident scene and investigated.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene. The crash remains under investigation.

Any witnesses to the accident are asked to contact police at 203-393-4200.
