On Aug. 28, 2012, Michael Lotz and others stole six firearms from a home in Stamford, according to court documents and statements made in court. Lotz was arrested the next day after he sold three of the stolen firearms to an individual working with law enforcement and a fourth stolen firearm to an undercover officer, the statement said.
Lotz has been detained since his federal arrest on April 1, 2013. On Oct. 3, 2013, he pleaded guilty to one count of possession of stolen firearms.
Lotz’s criminal history includes multiple felony convictions for burglary and other offenses, the statement said.
He was sentenced Tuesday by Chief U.S. District Judge Janet C. Hall in New Haven.
Lotz was originally arrested by Stamford police on Aug. 28, 2012. At the time of his arrest in Stamford, police said that Lotz sold a stolen rifle to an undercover cop on the city’s East Side for $200. A surveillance unit also saw Lotz sell three rifles to another man earlier in the day, police said at the time.
Stamford officers seized four rifles, a shotgun, and an assault weapon in connection with Lotz, police said. Read more about his Stamford arrest in 2012 here on the Daily Voice.
This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Stamford Police Department, with the assistance of the Darien Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Rahul Kale and Vanessa Richards.
