DARIEN, Conn. -- A Stamford man was charged with selling marijuana after police found drugs, a scale and baggies in his car in Woodland Park in Darien, police said.

An officer was on patrol on Tuesday, Sept. 5, saw a car parked in the Woodland Park lot after dusk, which is when the park closes. The officer pulled int to investigate, and made contact with three people sitting on a bench, where he could smell burnt marijuana, police said. When questioned, the three people admitted that they had just smoked marijuana, according to police.

The officer then went to the car and contacted two people inside, where he again detected the odor of marijuana, according to police. K9 Argo was brought in to conduct a free air sniff of the outside of the car, and alerted officers to the presence of drugs, police said.

A search of the car turned up a bag containing a quantity of marijuana, a quantity of cash, a scale, rubber bands and empty baggies, which are typically indicative of the sale of marijuana, police said.

The driver, later identified as 21-year-old Oliva Jonathan of Stamford, admitted that the bag and its contents belonged to him, police said. Hew as charged with possession of marijuana and sale of marijuana, and released on a promise to appear in court on Sept. 15.
