The incident occurred Saturday, Aug. 19, on the East Side of Stamford, with the Stamford Police Patrol Division and the OUI detail responding, police said.
When officers arrived, they found the suspect, identified as David Perez, 38, was drunk and preparing to flee in his vehicle, police said.
An argument had begun when Perez arrived after driving from New York to Connecticut with her 10-year-old son, police said.
"She observed the vehicle drive into the residence recklessly and at a high rate of speed with the child in the vehicle," police said in a statement.
"At the residence a domestic argument ensued with Perez striking, pushing, strangulating, and threatening to kill the victim by grabbing a knife. This all took place in the presence of the 10-year-old child," police said.
Perez locked himself in a third floor bedroom and attempted to hide from officers, police said.
Perez struggled briefly with officers but "was brought under control and placed under arrest," police said.
Several witnesses in the area assisted officers with the investigation, police said.
Perez was transport to police headquarters, where he failed field sobriety tests. He was charged with operating under the influence, reckless operation, and risk of injury to a minor. A $5,000 bond was levied on these charges.
Perez was additionally charged with third-degree assault, second-degree strangulation, risk of injury to a minor, second-degree threatening and disorderly conduct.
He was held on $100,000 bond and will be arraigned Tuesday at Stamford Superior Court.
