Two juvenile males were waling in the area of 310 Elm St. when they were approached by two other juveniles, one whom brandished a knife, police said. They forcibly stole a mountain bike from the duo and took off, according to police. Officers arrived and gave out a description of the suspects.

A short time later, Officer Robert Snyder was working a side job at the intersection of Tresser Boulevard and Washington Boulevard when he saw the two males approaching him. He called for backup and approached them, and quickly tackled one of them, a 17-year-old, according to police. Snyder recovered a knife from the teen and took him into custody.

Police said that Lt. Scanlon and Sgt. Deiso simultaneously tackled a 15-year-old as he attempted to ride south on Washington Boulevard on the stolen bike.

The victims identified the suspects and provided statements, police said. The juveniles were taken to the Youth Bureau and charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree conspiracy, second-degree threatening and interfering with police. The 17-year-old was also charged with possession of a dangerous weapon.

"This was an example of excellent police work by Officer Snyder and numerous officers from the Patrol Division which led to the arrest of two armed juveniles within five minutes of the call being given out," police said. "This is the third arrest this summer in which side job officers were responsible for assisting in felony arrests with the Patrol Division.
