Stamford Woman Charged With Stealing $13K In Scam At Darien Store

DARIEN, Conn. — A Stamford woman was charged with stealing more than $13,000 through a debit card return scam while working as a cashier at a Darien store, according to the Stamford Advocate.

Police told the Stamford Advocate that between October 2016 and May 2017, there were a high number of refunds to debit cards at Runner's Roost in Darien. The refunds totaled $13,787, and were made to two debit cards owned by 28-year-old Monefa Hamilton of Stamford, a cashier at the store, according to the Stamford Advocate.

Hamilton used different names when making the fraudulent returns, according to the Stamford Advocate. She was fired and a warrant was issued for her arrest, the Stamford Advocate reported. She was charged with second-degree larceny and released on a $25,000 bond, according to the Stamford Advocate.
