Ariosto Borja, 37, was charged with leaving a child unsupervised in a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle without a license. He was released on a promise to appear in court Feb. 17.
Police received a complaint from Darien Pediatrics on Friday afternoon that a child had been left unattended in a car in the parking lot.
A nurse went out to check and monitored the child, waiting for a parent to return, police said. After about 30 minutes, the nurse tried the door and realized it was unlocked. She brought the child into the office's waiting room, police said.
When she brought the child inside, his stepfather Borja said: "I forgot him in the car," according to police reports.
Borja had been in the doctor's office with his 3-month-old baby, who had an appointment, police said.
Employees called the police, who arrived on the scene after Borja had left. They provided police with his contact information, and they called him and had him meet them at the Darien police station.
He told officers that he had been concerned about his baby, who was very sick, police said. He had forgotten about his stepson, police said.
After arriving at the doctor's office, he and the infant were taken immediately into the examination room, police said.
The 2-year-old was left in the unheated car for about 30 minutes with temperatures outside of about 20 degrees, according to police.
Police also checked and determined that Borja did not have a license. He was issued misdemeanor summonses, and the children's mother was called to pick up the kids.
