Renato Medythaler, 34, was allegedly nowhere to be found at the scene of a Dec. 13 accident where a 2015 Toyota Corolla caught on fire after it struck a tree, the Darien Times reported.

According to the Darien Times, a witness told police they saw Medythaler flee the scene and attempt to enter a home on Stephen Mather Road. Medythaler allegedly told police he was looking for his mother's home, who police later determined did not live in Darien, the Darien Times reported.

Medythaler's licence had been suspended since 2006 due to a DUI charge, and he was shown to have a blood alcohol content of .21, said Darien Times.

A warrant for Medythaler’s arrest was issued on Jan. 12, and he turned himself in to authorities on Feb. 3, Darien Times reported.
