DARIEN, Conn. -- A $50,000 Porsche was stolen out of a Darien driveway this weekend after the owners left it unlocked with the keys inside, according to police.

Police were called to a home on Oak Crest Drive at around 9:12 a.m. Sunday on a report of a stolen motor vehicle. When officers arrived, they spoke with the owner who reported last seeing the car parked in the driveway at around 10:30 p.m. the previous night. The white 2011 Porsche Cayenne S had been left unlocked with the keys inside, police said.

The owner told police that she had not heard anything usual overnight. Police canvassed the area and spoke with neighbors, but nobody had seen or heard anything unusual overnight either. Police said that other motor vehicle burglaries were reported in the same area and are potentially connected. The investigation is ongoing, and the Porsche has yet to be recovered.

Police are again reminding residents to lock their vehicles at all times, saying that the recent spate of motor vehicle burglaries and thefts all share one thing in common: the vehicles were left unlocked and, in the case of stolen vehicles, the keys were left inside.

"We cannot state this strongly enough; the ongoing protection of valuable property is really a joint effort between the property owners and law enforcement," police said. "We simply cannot be everywhere, every day, at every moment to protect your property. Please help us help you; do not leave valuables in your vehicle and please ensure that your vehicles are locked at all times, no matter where they are parked."
