Francis Oldham of Bethel, Joshua Taylor of New Fairfield, Andrew Ponticiello of Mamaroneck, N.Y., Vincent DelVecchio of Stratford and Robert Wargo of Hamden all took the oath in an afternoon ceremony before family, friends and fellow fire personnel at the department’s Post Road East headquarters.

Chief Robert Yost told the recruit class that they now have a duty to protect the lives and property of Westport and promote safety in town.

“Never lose sight of the mission,” he said. “Never tarnish the badge.”

Marpe told them the town and its citizens respect their service.

“This is a great group of people you’re joining,” Marpe said.
