DARIEN, Conn. – A 22-year-old Darien woman was accused of kicking a police officer in the groin while she was being arrested on drunken-driving charges early Monday, police said.

An officer on patrol saw a car driving with its headlights off on the Post Road at about 12:30 a.m. Monday, according to the police report. The officer followed the car, which stopped at a green light before turning onto Brookside Drive, police said.

The driver, Katherine Sullivan, of Hollow Tree Ridge Road, failed field sobriety tests at the scene and was taken to Darien Police headquarters, according to the police report. She refused to take a Breathalyzer test at the station, police said.

During the booking process, Sullivan was uncooperative and refused officers’ requests to go into a holding cell, police said Monday. During the disagreement, she kicked a male officer in the groin, causing him to fall to his knees in pain, according to the arrest report. The officer declined medical treatment, police said.

Sullivan was charged with driving under the influence, interfering with police and assault on a peace officer. She was held on $5,000 bond and taken to court Monday morning.
