At about 3 p.m., Sgt. Richard Gasparino was monitoring Latham Park on Bedford Street, police said.
He saw the woman get out of the rear passenger door of a vehicle parked in an adjacent parking lot and begin to walk away, police said. Gasparino recognized this was a possible narcotics transaction, which occurs from time to time in this area, police said.
He called for a marked police vehicle, and as Officers Daniel DeRocco and William Garay got near, she removed a plastic bag from her purse and placed it under her shirt, police said.
Then as officers approached, she removed the plastic bag, threw it on the ground and started to run, police said. She was quickly apprehended without incident.
Inside the plastic bag officers found 15 individual baggies containing marijuana and cocaine, police said.
Jennifer Rudek, 36, of 115 South Road, Harwington, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of narcotics and possession with intent to sell.
She is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 4.
