DARIEN, Conn. -- The Darien Housing Authority soon will receive state support to finance a complete renovation of two single-family public housing structures on West Avenue in Darien, Gov. Dannel Malloy and state Sen. Bob Duff (D-Norwalk) recently announced.
The two buildings, at 216 and 218 West Ave., originally were constructed in the 1940s to house returning World War II veterans. Both are in need of extensive repairs and renovations, including new roofs, windows, bathroom upgrades, heating and cooling systems, new siding and other improvements.
“There is a great need for affordable housing here in Darien and throughout Fairfield County. I am very glad to see these funds approved for the Darien Housing Authority," Duff said in a statement. "This will allow two currently vacant single-family units to be completely remodeled into good homes, ready for new families to move in.”
Both structures are adjacent to The Heights at Darien, a new 106-unit affordable housing complex currently in the final stages of development.
