FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- State Reps. Terrie Wood (R-141) and Patricia Miller (D-145) recently co-hosted the Women’s Business Development Council’s third annual Women-Owned Business Day at the State Capitol.

The event was sponsored by WBDC, an organization that educates and trains women to run small businesses, along with the Permanent Commission on the Status of Women.

Wood, who represents Darien and Norwalk, addressed the assemblage of entrepreneurs, then joined the WBDC for a networking event and a discussion with state and national leaders about the economic influence women-owned businesses have throughout the state of Connecticut.

“Women bring humanity to everything they do,” Wood said, “and are an asset to the business community because of the life perspective that we bring.”

Miller, who represents Stamford, is an honorary co-chair for Women-Owned Business Day at the Capitol.

"Women entrepreneurs are essential to our economy – they are incredible innovators and drivers of economic growth," she said. "The Women’s Business Development Council, a nonprofit organization that provides training and support to women entrepreneurs, organized this great event for the third year in a row."

The theme of this year's event was "Your Dollars, Your Business, Your Vote."

In addition to hearing from many speakers, attendees participated in workshops on access to capital, government contracting, and branding for entrepreneurs.
