HARTFORD, Conn. -- State Rep. Terrie Wood (R-141) recently testified in favor of a bill that would allow municipalities to reduce the number of polling places during the primaries.

Proponents of implementing such a measure argue that doing so would reduce the overall cost of running elections.

“We are living in challenging financial times in Connecticut,” said Wood, who represents Darien and Norwalk. “Businesses and families are tightening their belts and finding savings wherever and however possible. As Connecticut citizens search for ways to save, so must government. Consolidating polling locations for primary elections is one of many ways we can save our municipalities money.”

Wood’s bill, S.B. 253, is currently being reviewed by the Government Administration and Elections Committee.
