Darien Seeks Candidates For Land Use Boards

DARIEN, Conn. - Darien is seeking Republicans to serve on two land use boards. There is currently one vacancy on the Planning and Zoning Commission, and two on the Environmental Protection Commission.

The P&Z Commission is comprised of six members and is responsible for reviewing and acting upon land use applications, as well as work on long-range planning, including anticipated work on an update to the Town Plan of Conservation and Development in late 2013 or early 2014. The commission generally meets about 30 times a year, usually on Tuesday nights. The vacancy term seat will be up for re-election in November 2013.

The EPC reviews applications for activity in and near wetlands and watercourses. It serves as both the Flood and Erosion Control Board and as the Conservation Commission. It generally meets about 15 times per year, usually on Wednesday nights. Seats are appointed by the Board of Selectmen.

Anyone interested in serving on the P&Z Commission should submit one or two pages of their background and relevant experience to Planning and Zoning Director Jeremy Ginsberg at jginsberg@darienct.gov by 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5. This information will be passed to the other five members of the commission, who will narrow down the list of applicants and conduct full interviews at the Tuesday, Dec. 11 meeting.

Those interested in a spot on the EPC should contact Republican Party Nominating Chair Seth Morton at sethmorton@optonline.net.

If you have any questions about serving on either commission, call Ginsberg at 203-656-7351.
