Romney Continues To Top Darien Campaign Donations

DARIEN, Conn. – Mitt Romney continues to be the presidential candidate of choice for Darien campaign contributors. As of the end of July, Romney had received more than five times the amount of money as President Barack Obama.

Darien has made 315 contributions to Romney’s campaign, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Those contributions have amounted to $461,651. Obama has received 96 contributions, totaling $78,590.

Since Romney clinched the Republican nomination, Darien residents have continued to give him their support. Since the state primary, Romney has received 104 contributions, totaling $146,876. Obama has received 40 contributions since the primary for a total of $37,631.

Before the primary, Darien residents had made 40 contributions to other candidates, totaling $36,200. Darien residents have not made any contributions to any third party candidates.

Darien Republicans overwhelmingly supported Romney during the primary election. He received 84.4 percent of the total votes cast.

The Center for Responsive Politics is a research group that tracks money in U.S. politics. All political candidates must report the names of donors who contribute more than $200. Individuals are allowed to give up to $2,500 to a political candidate for the primary season and another $2,500 for the general election.
