This would be the fourth term on the Board of Selectmen for Stevenson. She intends to run with fellow Republicans Susan Marks, who will seek her second term on the board, and Jennifer Sommer, who will seek to replace Jerry Nielsen, who has decided not to seek a fourth term on the board.

Stevenson said that she has been thinking long and hard since the start of the year whether she wanted to run for re-election.

“In my opinion, the town is doing very well. I believe under my administration, and previous administrations, we’ve done a very good job of working with other boards, with the community and with the RTM to create a government that runs smoothly. I’m very proud of the work we’ve done this year with the budget and limiting the tax increase for our residents,” Stevenson said.

She believes that with so much uncertainty in the state government in the form on new tax burdens and pieces of legislation, it is important that Darien has consistency in its leadership. She also wants to make sure that, with the establishment of a new regional Council of Governments, that Darien has a seat at the table and has its voice heard on important issues such as regional transportation projects.

Other projects that Stevenson wants to see forward include the redevelopment of downtown and the Noroton Heights train station, completion of the town’s parking study, drafting a new town plan of conservation and development, and bringing more natural gas infrastructure into Darien. She said that the relationships she’s developed over the past several years on the board will help move these projects forward.

“I think I listen well to people and answer their questions and concerns. I highly value feedback, both positive and negative, and I think I’m a good steward of taxpayer dollars, putting the interests of the people of Darien above my own,” Stevenson said.

Stevenson is most proud of the work that her administration has done in controlling spending, as well as the Board of Selectman’s ability to work collaboratively the rest of the town’s government. She also said that, although it has been somewhat controversial, she is very proud of the Mather Center, which was completed and opened last year.

“I’m very proud that we have been able to give our seniors a state-of-the-art place to gather. I think the membership numbers speak for themselves and show how much the Mather Center is loved,” she said.

She praised the work of Marks during her time on the board, and believes that Sommer will make a fine addition, calling her “smart, articulate and thoughtful.” Though the team still needs to be formally nominated by the Republican Town Committee, she believes that their track record shows they have the skills to lead the community for another two years.
