Himes, a Democrat, is currently running for re-election for the Fourth District’s seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, which covers most of Fairfield County. He is facing Republican challenger Dan Debicella in the race, a businessman and former state senator from Shelton.
In an interview with the Daily Voice at his campaign offices in Norwalk, Himes said that the Affordable Care Act has helped many uninsured Americans get access to healthcare that they previously did not have. He acknowledged that there have been some problems with it, particularly with the rollout in states beyond Connecticut, where it went well. However, he believes the answer is not to repeal it, but to continue to work on it.
“On balance, I think most people understand today that was an important step forward, and the answer, and this is certainly what I support, is let’s find those areas where there are problems and fix them, and let’s talk more about what we can do to reduce costs in the system,” Himes said.
