The Weston Republican Town Committee recommended Ferguson to fill the vacated position. His appointment was unanimously approved  March 19 by the Board of Selectman,

“Bob Ferguson’s professional experience is evident by his accomplishments at Barclays Capital and Wachovia Capital Markets. He is a candidate who respects the opinions of others but isn’t afraid to speak his mind," said Britta Lerner, chair of the Weston RTC.

"He cares about the town and our schools. Bob is a fiscal conservative whose objective is to make the budgeting process more efficient.”

His professional background encompasses 25 years of a varied career with banks and Wall Street firms. He was a managing director for portfolio management and proprietary trading at Barclays Capital and director for asset-back and CMBS trading at Wachovia Capital Markets.

Ferguson's experience at Wachovia also includes mortgage-backed trading and foreign exchange trading. He also has SEC Series 7 and MSRB Series 63 certifications.

He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Tennessee with a degree in finance and minors in accounting and statistics.

Ferguson will be filling the seat vacated by long-term Republican Board of Finance member Michael Carter.

“I would like to thank Michael for his 10 years of service to Weston on the Board of Finance, and I will work hard to fill the large shoes that he is leaving," Ferguson said. "Weston is a wonderful town that offers a unique mix of a rural living combined with an exceptional school district. I look forward to working with the rest of the Board of Finance to continue the high quality of our educational system while maintaining the level of fiscal discipline that the board has worked so hard to preserve."

Ferguson officially will take office May 2.

At Thursday’s meeting, Ferguson reported he has long been interested in using his financial expertise to serve the town on the Board of Finance.

“I have been attending BOF meetings semi-regularly for over a year and have a clear understanding of the tasks ahead, as well as a respect for the Board,” he said.

Ferguson moved to Weston 11 years ago. His youngest daughter spent eight years in the Weston school system, graduating in 2012. In addition to serving as campaign chair of the RTC, he also is a member of Weston Kiwanis.

The Weston Republican Town Committee meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 8 p.m. in Town Hall, 56 Norfield Road. Members of the community are welcome to attend. For more information, go to www.westonrtc.org.
