Famous New Canaan Mansion Highlighted In Book Sells For $14.3 Million

NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- The lavish French-style New Canaan manor that had been on the market for nearly a decade has sold for $14.3 million, according to New Canaan News.

The 52-acre estate, owned by Manhattan heiress Huguette Clark, who died in 1911, was purchased by DeLom LLC, according to the report. The property was originally listed for $15.9 million.

The estate was a highlight of the book “Empty Mansions: The Mysterious Life of Huguette Clark and the Spending of a Great American Fortune” by Bill Dedman and Paul Clark Newell Jr. The book is about Clark’s life and her fortune, according to previous reports.

"The property was put on the market in 2005 with the price of $34 million," according to the New Canaan News report.

Clark, whose father W.A. Clark made some of his fortune in copper mining, purchased the nine-bedroom, eight-bathroom Le Beau Château in 1951 as a getaway, according to previous reports.
