White Plains Eager for State of the Union

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- White Plains residents, including Marshall Freeman, sounded off on issues they hope President Barack Obama will address in his State of the Union Tuesday evening.

"I just hope he says something that's really empowering that speaks to everyone in their different positions because everyone is struggling," said Freeman, 29, a recording artist manager. "I think it's hard to turn the county around in one term. I'd like to ask him if he'd do the second term differently and if we'd be able to see the difference more then."

Rocco Milard, a Yonkers resident who works at the Renaissance Plaza Starbucks, said he hopes the Democratic leader outlines a plan to decrease the presence of the United States’ armed forces abroad.

"Stay out of policy overseas. It doesn't concern anything in the economy. I understand sending aid, but physically going over there is just burning up all of our resources," said Milard, 25, a rap and R&B artist.

Job creation tactics was a topic many touched on, including Sebastian Arnold, of White Plains.

"I'm looking into what kind of jobs he's opening up and training for jobs, if he has intentions for that," said Arnold, 18, who is studying business at Westchester Community College and teaching at Grandmaster B.M. Kim’s Tae Kwon Do. "I have one job, but that's not enough money for me."

Fellow instructor Kenneth Wise, 17, said he'd like to hear Obama's stance on anti-piracy bills in addition to job creation plans.

"They need to not censor the Internet," said Wise, a senior at White Plains High School. "I'm against it because then a lot of stuff we go on like YouTube and Google for information will be censored."
