What’s Happening Around North Salem This Weekend

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – An Eagle Scout ceremony, music and farmers markets are among the events around North Salem this weekend.

Friday, June 29 

Artists Opening Reception: 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. The works of 20 local artists, including painting, photographs and other media, will be on display throughout the summer, but opening night will feature wine and cheese as well as good company. It’s worth a short drive to the Front Street Gallery, 21 Front St., Patterson.

Mystic Bowie at The Ridgefield Playhouse: 7 p.m. Performers include Mystic Bowie and the Dis N Dat Band, The McLovins, Taj Weekes and Adowa, The Family Tradition Steel Band, and Renard Boissiere at this benefit concert for The Mystic Bowie Cultural Center in Jamaica. The Ridgefield Playhouse is at 80 E. Ridge St. in Ridgefield, Conn. See the website for more information.

Jazz by Joey D.: 10 p.m. Somers’ Le Fontane Restaurant will host a return of musical performances by Joey DiGrazia, along with John Fiscella on guitar and Steve Cheteuti on sax and flute. “Joey D. Jazz” will perform jazz standards and selections from the American Songbook the first and last Friday of every month. Reservations are suggested. Call 914-232-9619. Saturday, June 30

Somers Independence Day Celebration: The festivities begin at 8 a.m. and conclude with fireworks at about 9:30 p.m. Click here for details.

John Jay Farmers Market: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Local farmers, bakers and crafts people offer a variety of produce, meats, fish, dairy products, baked goods and handcrafts at this weekly market. Click here for a list of vendors. The market will continue every Saturday through Oct. 15 at 400 Jay St. in Katonah.

Eagle Scout Ceremony: 1 p.m. The public is invited to attend a ceremony for five North Salem Boy Scouts who have received the highest award in Scouting, the Eagle. The Scouts are Warren Thomas Lucas, James Clark Batchelder, Couri Leuschner, Peter Zambelletti and Russell Barnard. The official Eagle Court of Honor takes place in the North Salem High School Auditorium, 230 June Road.

Sunday, July 1

Muscoot Farmers Market: 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Fresh produce, meats, cheese, soaps, candles, honey, maple syrup, flowers, fish and delicacies from local farmers and artisans are available. The Muscoot Farmers Market will continue every Sunday through October. Muscoot Farm is on Route 100, 1.5 miles south of Route 35 in Somers.
