Dump truck crash caused by drunk driver, authorities say

A motorist was drunk when her car smashed into a dump truck that plowed head-on into an oncoming car, seriously injuring its driver, the Bergen County prosecutor said this afternoon. Amy Ammicht, 55, was taken to Bergen Regional Medical Center for a blood sample and then ordered held on $150,000 bail after last night’s crash in Upper Saddle River.

Ammicht, of Budd Lake, was behind the wheel of a 2009 Dodge Caliber around 6 p.m. when she ignored a traffic signal and her car smashed into the dump truck, pushing it into the northbound lane of East Saddle River Road, said Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli.

The truck collided with a 2002 Honda Accord driven by 33-year-old Marwa Hazzah of Upper Saddle River, who was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, N.Y., with a broken leg and fractured hip, the prosecutor said.

The dump truck driver was treated for minor injuries and released from the same hospital, he said.

Investigators charged Ammicht with assault by auto and reckless driving, among other counts. They’re awaiting toxicology results on her blood.
