Yorktown Creates Business Tax Incentive Advisory Board

YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- During a Yorktown Town Board meeting officials dealt with a number of issues including the creation of a tax incentive advisory board.

According to Citizens for an Informed Yorktown, board members voted to create a Tax Incentive Board assigned with developing a plan for granting tax abatements to commercial properties.

Other issues discussed during the meeting included:

  • April 16 is the Battle of Yorktown. Volunteers are wanted to help pick up litter. Contact the Refuse and Recycling Department.
  • Police Chief Dan McMahon announced that Police Officer Justin Foley will be the department’s new traffic safety officer to help deal with traffic problems. Residents can contact Foley with traffic issues at traffic@yorktownpd.org
  • Brian Gray resigned as superintendent of Parks & Recreation.
  • The board also adopted a new law requiring new water meters or readers to be installed when a house is sold.
  • The board accepted a donation of 15 acres off Underhill Avenue. 
  • The board approved a new three year contract with the PBA that will run through 2017.
  • In addition: The board authorized the purchase of four new police cars at a price of $100,000 and awarded the town's towing contract to Yorktown Auto Body for $95,000
  • During floor discussions: Two residents discussed the lack of code enforcement, especially related to littering. 
  • The delay of installing fluoridation equipment at the Catskill water facility was also discussed.
  • A resident pointed out that some elected officials are delinquent in paying their taxes.
