Covid-19: New Rundown Of Long Island Deaths, Cases

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) death toll on Long Island climbed over 2,000 over the weekend, according to officials.

In Nassau, there were 664 new cases of COVID-19 reported overnight, as the total number of confirmed cases rose to 30,677. 

There have been 1,281 deaths since the outbreak began. In Suffolk, there were 774 new cases, for a total of 27,662 confirmed cases, which have resulted in 859 deaths.

There are still 2,043 COVID-19 patients in Nassau County, with an additional 1,441 in Suffolk.

In Nassau, Hempstead (1,504 cases) has seen the most cases, followed by Freeport (1,086), Elmont (918), Valley Stream (851), Uniondale (769), Levittown (716), Hicksville (707), East Meadow (682), Glen Cove (608), Franklin Square (598), and Long Beach (544).

"Nassau is making real progress, but we're not out of the woods yet," Nassau County Executive Laura Curran said. "Let's keep moving forward together." 

In Suffolk, the most cases have been reported in Islip (7,777), ahead of Brookhaven (5,605), Babylon (4,469), Huntington (3,337), and Smithtown (1,481).

There have been 242,786 confirmed COVID-19 cases in New York State as of Monday, which has resulted in 13,896 deaths. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said that 16,303 COVID-19 patients are still hospitalized with the virus.

“That number is still horrifically high,” Cuomo said. “The optimist can look and say ‘well the hospitalizations are going down,’ but that’s still 478 New Yorkers who died from this terrible virus.”
