DARIEN, Conn. – The Darien boys basketball team took a break from the courts to serve meals Saturday night to residents of the Shelter for the Homeless in Stamford.
They helped prepare and serve about 80 meals, as well as spend time talking about the season and basketball with the residents. The non-profit depends heavily on the work of volunteers, and last year more than 500 volunteers helped the shelter in its mission of empowering people in their time of need.
“Working together at the Shelter for the Homeless was a special opportunity for the team. It allowed us to work together but for others, not ourselves,” said senior tri-captain Liam Naughton. “Frank Colandro from Mama Carmela’s Deli in Darien and our parents helped organize the food we needed for the evening. It was nice to be able to help others who are less fortunate.”
