Falcone, a district employee for 16 years and its superintendent since 2010, reportedly informed district staff Tuesday. No public announcement had been made as of Tuesday afternoon.
Falcone and district administrators had faced criticism recently, as a state investigation found that Darien’s special education program had not followed proper procedures as mandated by law. State and district investigations are still ongoing into the matter.
The Board of Education met Monday night to discuss Falcone’s performance. The review was held in executive session, and the board’s discussion was not made public.
School Board chair Elizabeth Hagerty-Ross said via email that “this issue will be discussed at this evening's Board of Ed meeting." The public portion of the meeting is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. at Darien Board of Education headquarters.
