Darien Students Fight Cancer With Flowers

DARIEN, Conn. — Darien kids are doing their part in the fight against cancer. Students at Ox Ridge Elementary are participating in the American Cancer Society’s annual Daffodil Days fundraiser.

Ox Ridge second-graders Valentina Cuccolo and Michael Latham delivered daffodils to their teacher, Stacy Johnson, during the drive. Proceeds raised by the sale of daffodils to Darien students are used to fund cancer research and provide services for cancer patients.

The flowers are green when purchased, but explode into bright yellow flowers within a day of being placed in water.

Former Middlesex Middle School computer teacher Nancy McKean Clifford is the school’s local daffodil drive organizer.
