Ox Ridge Salutes Veterans

Ox Ridge School honored American veterans at its 13th annual Veterans Day celebration. The school's children, teachers and administrators saluted 32 veterans who are family members or friends of students and staff.

Principal John Rechi said the Veterans Day celebration started with a celebration first held in the classroom of former assistant principal Rita Ferri, whose father, Master Sgt. Flavio Foglio, served in the Army during World War II. Rechi dedicated this year's program in memory of three WW II veterans who participated in past programs at Ox Ridge: Flavio Foglio, Jack Vier, and Gene Ofiero.

The veterans heard songs from students, and fifth-graders Emily Richards and Will Pegler led the guests and school in the Pledge of Allegiance. Assistant Principal Luke Forshaw made a Veterans Day Proclamation and introduced the flags of the various service branches. Fifth-grader Grace Klein read a poem, "It Is the Veteran,'' to the former soldiers, who also talked with the children in a question-and-answer format.

Veterans who attended included Bruce Allen, Jacqueline Christie, John Alter, Thomas Connolly, Walter Barthold, Donald Goll, Craig Battison, Manny Gomes, David Beebe, Robert Grady, Dan Bock, John Keleher, Richard Brereton, Stewart Klein, Philip Kraft, Brian Seek, John Macri, John Simshauser, Nicholas Milana, Philip Smith, Robert Minicus, Orie Stafford, Robert Mitchell, Robert Tortorella, Ed Patricelli, Clark Weber, Jim Rand, Steve Wilkos, Tony Richards, George Zengo, Eugene Record Jr., Russ Chapman, Brendan Rogers and Ronald Ochman.
