DARIEN, Conn. -- The Darien Environmental Group is taking third-graders on a trip to the Darien Recycling Center.
The pilot program replaces the Darien Environmental Group/Darien Public Schools field trip to the Garbage Museum in Stratford, according to a news release. On the trip, third-grade students are given a 45-minute tour by volunteers from the Department of Public Works and Darien Transfer Station Advisory Committee, according to the release.
"During this enlightening and worthwhile trip to introduce them to the Center, students will be shown where single-stream recycling and trash facilities are located, where items like appliances, batteries, electronics and fluorescent bulbs are recycled, and where the SWAP Shop is located," representatives said in the release. "Students will be reminded that recycling is the law and that recycling saves money for the town in which they and their families live."
The first field trip took place Thursday with the next planned for 9 a.m. Oct. 10. Other trips are set for 9 a.m. Oct. 16 and 17 and 9 a.m. Oct. 24.
