Stamford's Mike Ballo shot 71 in the final round to finish in third place at the prestigious Northeast Amateur Saturday. Ballo, who plays out of Woodway Country Club in Darien, finished at two-under-par 274 for 72 holes, four shots behind winner Joseph Bramlett of Saratoga, Calif.
Ballo, who graduated from St. John's in May, started the final round tied for the lead with Bramlett. He shot 66-69-68 in the first three rounds. He finished with one birdie and three bogeys. Bramlett shot a final-round 67.
Rowatyon's Cameron Wilson finished in 18th place. He shot 71 in the final round and had a total of 282.
Ballo and Wilson will begin play Monday in the Metropolitan Golf Association's Ike Tournament. Ballo is the defending champion. The tournament is a 54-hole stroke play competition featuring the best amateur golfers in the region. The tournament will be played at Metropolis Country Club in White Plains, N.Y.
