Rory, 16, James 14, and Charlie, 12, collect equipment each year to distribute to less fortunate children throughout the country. This year, collection times will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sept. 20 and 21.
All three boys are goalies and have played hockey in New Canaan and Darien since they were small children. They began conducting the collection and distribution of equipment when their garage began to fill up with their outgrown equipment.
The boys held their first equipment drive in 2012. It was successful, so they turned it into an annual effort.
They will accept all types of equipment: helmets, neck guards, shoulder pads, gloves, pants, shin pads, goalie leg pads and skates. But they will not take socks and jerseys.
The brothers take the items home, sort them in their driveway, then label and bag them to be delivered to youth hockey leagues in Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts.
This year they are partnering with Defending the Blue Line, which is an organization that provides free hockey equipment to military members.
