in Babe Ruth State Tourney

DARIEN, Conn. – The Darien 13-year-old Babe Ruth team rolled to the winners bracket final in the Babe Ruth State tournament Sunday with a 13-1, five-inning victory over Ridgefield. Darien plays New Milford Tuesday for a spot in the championship round.

Stephen Barston pitched four innings for Darien, striking out two, walking none and allowing five hits. Jake Frasca pitched the final inning.

Andrew Enzor had two hits, including a triple, scored two runs and drove in a run for Darien, which has outscored opponents 23-1 in its first two games. Frasca doubled, scored two runs and had an RBI.

Other offensive stars included Jamie Schofield (double, triple, three runs, RBI), Tyler Costantino (single, run, RBI), Craig Miller (two singles, double, three runs, five RBIs) and Barston (single, run, three RBIs). Mike O'Malley, Drew Costantino and Enzo Stefanoni added hits.

Tuesday's winner advances to the championship round Thursday. The loser drops to the losers bracket and would need to win twice in the championship round.
