DARIEN, Conn. Sophomore Brian Davey finished 20th Saturday to pace Darien High School runners in the Wilton Invitational. He covered the 3.15-mile course in 18:10 to help the Blue Wave to a third place finish in the small schools division of the meet.
Jack Sparkman was Darien's second runner in 18:28, followed by Colten Appleby (18:34), Andrew Xigon (18:55) and Sean Lee. In the junior varsity race, Burton Palmer finished fourth in 19:13 for Darien. Freshman Alex Ostberg took second in the freshman race, covering the 1.5-mile distance in 7:44. Wilton's Spencer Brown won the race in 7:41.
For the girls, Darien finished eighth, led by Sophie Long in 19:52 for the 2.8-mile course. Emma Long (21:29), Catie Bartone (22:06), Veronika Keleman (22:33) and Livy Ashburne (24:06) were Darien's other scorers.
Both Darien teams have a huge meet on Tuesday at Staples. Danbury and Norwalk will also be running in the meet. Darien's boys are ranked No.10 in the state , while Danbury is ranked No. 4. The Hatters have won six straight league championships, and Darien is viewed as one of the teams that could topple the Hatters this year. Darien's girls are on the cusp of being ranked among the state's top 10.
