Darien 4 Wave Beats Westport

DARIEN, Conn. — Darien Bantam 4 Wave gave Head Coach Mark Fox a special birthday gift: a 6-0 win over Westport to end their regular season.

The Darien offense got rolling early with an opening run by Peter Marsh. Grant Doherty ran speedy sweeps left and right. "Action" Jackson Leone lunged for a first down on a laser left.

On defense, Darien was defiant. Lineman Peter Fox made tackles all over the field.  Grayden Overbeck was defensive player of the game, and Eric Morgan manhandled Wrecker runners.

Three straight solo tackles highlighted Tad Daley's performance. George "Incredible" Hult helped stop Westport drives. Christian "Rock" Nawrocki was immovable on the line and made several outstanding tackles. Alex "Axe" Tomasello made a huge fourth down tackle to stop Westport cold.  The two teams played to a 0-0 tie at halftime.

The second-half belonged to Darien. Ben Wakim awoke the offense with running and passing. The seesaw contest saw the ball move within each team's red zone twice with no scores. Late in the game and deep in Westport territory, Darien quarterback Austin Dehmel ran a solo sweep right for a 20-yard score, giving Darien its most important six points all season. For the extra point, Jack Archie carried the ball and five Westport players to the 1-yard line. With Darien leading 6-0, Westport staged a final push. Ryan Mulliken, who earlier in the game recovered a fumble and chased down a sure-score by a Westport back, deflected a Hail Mary pass to end the game.

Darien's win gave the team a needed boost as it prepares for the playoffs.
