DARIEN, Conn. The Darien fourth-grade Wave team took on unbeaten Wilton and gave it a true challenge. Darien's Grant Doherty and Christian "Rock" Nawrocki's key tackles defied Wilton's attack aided by huge hits by Alex Tomasello and Grayden Overbeck. Peter Marsh and Eric Morgan kept Wilton in check, allowing Darien to score on two big plays.
Darien quarterback Austin Dehmel ran for two long touchdowns. Running back Ryan Mulliken ran outside for big gains while John Henry "Birthday Boy" Slonieski celebrated with a key 20-yard first-down run. The Darien Wave was energized on several drives by Jack Archie, Ben Wakim and Jackson Leone.
In trying to wither Wilton, Darien's Peter Fox and George Hult stopped key plays with inspired tackles. In the closing seconds and with Darien marching, running back Louis Messina took on the Wilton defense and toughed out key yards. Darien looks ahead to the next game.
