DARIEN, Conn. The Darien eighth-grade White team bounced back from its first defeat a week earlier to beat Ridgefield Orange, 35-18. The team is now 4-1 heading into the home stretch of the season.
Darien's offense was efficient, scoring on its first two plays of the day. However, Ridgefield came back every time, making it a challenging win for Darien.
On Darien's first offensive play, quarterback Tim Graham hit Baylor Stewart for a 55-yard touchdown. Stewart's kick gave Darien a 7-0 lead with 5:51 left in the first quarter.
Ridgefield charged back and scored on a 7-yard run, making the score 7-6 after a missed two-point conversion attempt.
On Darien's second offensive play of the day, Luis Sanchez scored on a 70-yard run. With Stewart's kick, Darien was ahead 14-6 at the end of the first quarter.
At the start of the second half, Graham found Shelby Grant deep in Ridgefield territory for a 37-yard pass play. Grant scored on the next Darien play after Will Allam intercepted a Ridgefield pass. Grant scored on a 20-yard run. With Stewart's PAT the score was 28-6 with 6:23 left in the third quarter.
Ridgefield came charging back and made the score 28-12 after missing the two-point conversion attempt.
Darien sealed the game with at 40-yard pass play from Graham to Sanchez with 7:02 left in the game. Ridgefield then scored on a run, making the final score 35-18.
Darien next plays Ridgefield Black next Sunday at Darien High School.
