Darien Eighth-Grade Boys Add Lacrosse Title

DARIEN, Conn. — The Darien eighth-grade boys travel lacrosse team completed a perfect season Sunday at Yale, capturing the 2012 CONNY lacrosse championship.

Darien defeated New Canaan, 6-4, in the championship game. It earned the title game by beating Greenwich, 9-3, in the semifinals. Darien finished the season 12-0. CONNY is the Connecticut New York Youth Lacrosse Association.

The CONNY championship caps off a fabulous 18-month run for many of the boys. In March of 2011, the Darien seventh-grade boys travel basketball team, coached by Kevin George, captured its first Fairfield County Basketball League Championship with a win over Danbury.

As seventh-graders the same year, the travel lacrosse team won its first of two CONNY championships by defeating Ridgefield. The team was coached by Jim Book and Glen Moore.

This past fall, the Darien eighth-grade Blue and White football teams shared the Fairfield County Football Championship by defeating both New Canaan teams in the semifinals. As eighth-graders, the boys travel basketball team made it back-to-back championships in March by defeating New Castle in the Fairfield County Basketball League finals.

Sunday’s victory was the final chapter for the boys lacrosse team before they head on to high school.

Team members include Hudson Hamill, Jamie Swiggett, Liam Rischmann, Billy Platt, Mark Evanchick, Jack Klingman, Aiden Coyle, Baylor Stewart, Burke Blatney, Bobby Trifone, Jake Kirby, Brendan Hoffman, Billy Sperry, Brendan Seiler, Jack Book, Tim Graham, Jack Flannagan, Matt Sealy, Will Simpson, Jack Kniffin, Jeff Parnon, Colin Minicus and Christian Trifone.
