Darien High School's football team used another dominating defensive performance and a strong rushing attack Saturday to defeat Westhill, 43-0, in a Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference football game.
Darien (8-0) hosts Norwalk on Saturday. If it wins, Darien will play in the FCIAC title game Nov. 19 at Trumbull High School. The Blue Wave also play New Canaan on Thanksgiving in their final regular-season game.
Darien is ranked second in the Class L point rankings behind Masuk. The top eight teams in each division make the state tournament.
The Blue Wave amassed 298 yards on the ground against Westhill, led by Graham Maybell's 90 yards on eight carries. Sam Gesauldi added 88 yards on 11 carries. Quarterback Chris Allam rushed for 52 yards and completed 10-of-14 passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns. Tucker Morehouse sparked the defense with nine tackles.
Maybell rushed for two touchdowns and caught a scoring pass. Will Weinstock caught a touchdown pass while Gesauldi and Christian Bogner added touchdown runs.
