DARIEN, Conn. The Darien High School football team went 4-2 and reached the quarterfinals Saturday of the third annua l Grip It and Rip It Passing Tournament at New Canaan High School. The tournament featured 23 teams in 7-on-7 passing drills and included teams from Connecticut and New York.
Darien defeated Newtown, 14-7; Bridgeport Central and Cheshire, 28-13, in round-robin competition. It also lost to Norwalk, 13-6. In the single elimination round, Darien dumped Canterbury, 20-6, before falling to Cheshire, 26-12.
Junior Henry Baldwin saw most of the time at quarterback, with sophomore Silas Wyper also seeing time. Seniors Ryan Barthold, Steven Ciasullo, Patrick McDonald, Michael Stovall and Harlan Smith caught scoring passes, as did juniors Pete Gesualdi and Matt Forelli.
Darien players saw familiar faces on Canterbury, whose team included former Darien players Anthony Donato, Scotty Waters and Curry Harmon.
