DARIEN, Conn. Dariens varsity football team kicks off its season Friday at Fairfield Ludlowe.
On Saturday, however, the Blue Waves freshman class got its first taste of high school action when it scrimmaged against national power Don Bosco of New Jersey.
The Blue Wave lost, 28-6, but varsity coach Rob Trifone said it was the best that we have ever played against the New Jersey power.
Timmy Graham hit Christian Trifone with a touchdown pass for Dariens only score. Hudson Hamil and Rock Stewart had receptions for big yardage and Will Allam had an interception. Mark Evanchick had two sacks.
The Darien freshmen distinguished themselves last year in the Fairfield County Football League. Two teams from the Darien went a combined 15-3 and shared the league title. Several freshman also played on the Fairfield County Basketball League team that won the eighth grade county championship and the Connecticut-New York lacrosse championship.
