DARIEN, Conn. – Darien sophomore Anne Johnston finished sixth to lead the Blue Wave to a fourth-place team finish Sunday at the State Open cross country championships at Wickham Park in Manchester.
Darien finished with 217 points. League rival Ridgefield won the team crown with 83 points, followed by Avon and Glastonbury. Darien topped Wilton, which beat the Blue Wave by nine points in the Class L championships. Darien’s boys team finished 10th, led by Colten Appleby in 40th place.
Johnston ran 19:31 on the 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) course, and was the second runner from the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference. Darien’s five scorers included Grace Loh (24th), Sarah Colon (34th), Ellen Bauer (115th) and Katie Farren (127th). Claire Walker also ran for Darien.
For the boys, Darien’s other scorers included Marshall Huffman (45th), Brian Davey (68th), Peter Kreuch (83rd) and Jack Sparkman (137).
