Darien's girls lacrosse team continues to roll through the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference. The Blue completed another undefeated season against league foes with an 18-7 victory over Brien McMahon Tuesday night, the third straight year Darien has gone unbeaten in the regular season against league opponents.
"Our goal is always to be in the top four teams to make the playoffs,'' coach Lisa Lindley said afterwards. "It won't mean a thing if we go undefeated in the regular season and lose in the semifinals. What I say to the team is if we can take care of things and go in as the top seed, it makes it easier."
Senior attack Lanning McDonald had five goals and two assists to lead Darien, while Ann Fucigna had four goals. Cali Ceglarski added a pair for Darien, which led 13-1 at halftime. The Blue Wave are 11-0 in the FCIAC and 11-2 overall, with both losses to teams from New York state.
"I didn't know how McMahon was going to be this year,'' Lindley said. "Last year they gave us a real good game. No matter who our opponent is, we're trying to play at a high level." Darien finishes its regular season with non-league games Thursday against Greenwich Academy and Saturday against Suffern.
