Darien Girls Sends N.Y Team Home With Loss

DARIEN, Conn -- It takes an ambitious field hockey program to schedule a nonleague game against Darien — the three-time defending Connecticut state champions. Rye High School was up to the challenge but Darien rewarded their ambition with a 3-1 loss.

Rye's Emma Brickman got an early goal by the Darien defense and Darien goalie Danica Hornick. Hornick turned away Rye's other five shots.

Hollis Perticone scored twice for Darien and Kat Huber scored once. Maggie Wells assisted on two of those and Sam Wright aided on the third.

Darien returns to FCIAC league play on Monday when they host Fairfield Ludlowe. Ludlowe's current league record is 1-4-1-1 (wins, losses, ties and OT losses).
