DARIEN, Conn. Darien's Grace Loh finished first to lead the Blue Wave girls cross country team to a sweep in a meet Tuesday at Staples. Danbury and Norwalk also ran in the race.
Darien, 4-0, won a close meet with Danbury, 24-31. The Blue Wave had an easier time against Staples, winning 19-40, and beat Norwalk, 16-47.
Loh, a junior, cruised through the 4,000 meter course in 17:52. She won by 18 seconds over Danbury's Emily Brenner with a strong surge in the second half of the race. Sarah Colon finished third overall, followed by Ellen Bauer. McKinley Stauffer finished seventh and Alex Pear was 13th. Katie Farren and Katie Donovan finished 14th and 15th for Darien.
Darien should have an interesting meet next week against Ridgefield. That meet will be run at St. Joseph in Trumbull. Ridgefield is 5-0 after beating Westhill and Greenwich on Tuesday. Ridgefield beat Danbury, 15-48, in the first week of the season and also knocked off perennial league contender Wilton in the same race.
